Summer Competition Report - Round 10

Round 10 kicked off with a head-to-head between the Golf Club Aces and the Snipers, with the match taking place at the Broadford Golf Club. The Snipers came out swinging and had the game stitched up 6-0 before the Aces could land a blow, the visitors running away to a 10-1 victory. The highlights for the Aces included a ton & a 180 for Mark Ruddick, well done Fuzz! Dave Ring banged in two tons, Alan Sharp snagged a 123 and Mark Jones notched the teams solitary win to go with two tons and a 140. The Snipers Mark Robinson nailed the maximum six pegs, including a Round high peg of 110, he also fired in six tons, a 104, 125, two 140’s & a 180, Steve Ritchie smacked in five pegs, a ton, a 121, two 123’s & a 140, Jason Masters scored three tons and a 121 and Darren Withoos hit three tons & a 134.
The Pirates locked horns with the ladder leading Kings in the next match for the round, with the Kings making the trek down the freeway to the Top Pub in Broadford. The Kings drew first blood to leave the Pirates scrambling, but three wins on the trot gave the home side a 3-1 lead, giving them a small injection of confidence. The Kings worked their way back to level the scores, only for the Pirates to skip away again to lead 5-3, one win away from an upset victory. But the Kings never say die attitude came to the fore as they levelled the scores once again, forcing the result to the final game of the night, a fitting end for an epic battle. But the Pirates young gun Zane Kilroy got the job done, with a four-ton final leg delivering the Pirates a 6-5 victory. Including his final match heroics, Zane finished with five pegs, six tons, a 121 & a high peg of 92, Seth Kilroy smacked in two tons, a 123, two 140’s, a 180 and a match high peg of 100, Steve Kilroy scored three tons & a 121 and Andrew Harrison speared in two straight tons. Kings captain Terran Crispin slipped in five tons, a 105, 125 & a 140, Adam Lynch snared six tons, a 125 & high peg of 78, Anthony Bohlmann barrelled home three tons & a 140 and Rob Welsh slammed in four straight tons.
The Broadford Badass went toe to toe with the Renegades in the final A Grade match of the night, both teams traded blows to see Badass hold a narrow 4-3 lead left with four reversed singles left to play, with another thrilling finish looking likely. But Badass dropped the hammer, winning the next three games on the spin to bank the four points, leaving the ‘Gades ruing why might have been! Peter Myles was the top scorer for the home team, blasting in four tons & a 140, Gary Power steered in a ton, 125 & 140, Anthony Wallis pounded in a ton & a 180, Rick Wylie snagged a ton, Wayne Cartner hammered in a 133 and Christine Lorenz banged in a 107 and a match high peg of 81. The Renegades had a nice even spread, with Roscoe Penny smacking in high scores of 102 & 133, Leigh Turnbull scored two tons, Roger McCallum nailed a 119 and Justin Billman fired in a ton.
The first B Grade game of the night took place at the Royal Hotel, with the second placed Rascals facing off against the highly fancied Kilmore Convicts. The Convicts drew first blood with a team game victory, but it was nearly all one way traffic after that, with the Rascals winning five of the next six games to take a handy 5-2 lead into the reverse singles. The Convicts won the first reverse game, but the Rascals steadied and won the next two to put the game to bed, winning the night 7-4. The Royal Rascals’ Belinda Reid was the dominant scorer for the home side, finishing with a 121 & a 140 to her name, Noel Whittling hammered home two tons and Aaron Peacock snuck in a 138. Peter Browne was a shining light for the Convicts, the Kilmore captain navigated his way through a peg of 97 as well as throwing two tons, a 120 & a 140 and youngster Jackson Browne was the only other Convict to hit a recordable score with a single ton.
The Kilmore Cobras were the next cab off the rank as they threw down the gauntlet to the plucky Jacarandas, who were fresh off back-to-back wins in the previous two rounds, they spent all week planned an upset victory with their mind bent on getting their hattrick. But despite their well laid plans, the Cobras blew the visitors away to the tune of a 9-2 demolition. Rob Davon was a man on a mission for the Cobras, belting in the maximum six finishes as well as three tons, a 126 & two 140’s, Rohan Clancy was his main foil with a ton & a 140 and Crystal Bird slapped in a high score of 134. The Jacarandas didn’t have a recordable score, but captain Shelley Jensen had an equal game high peg of 40 and Cory Ritchie bagged himself the team’s only singles win.
The final game of the Round took place at the Railway Club Hotel in Seymour, with the Ducks squaring up against the Marauders in a fairly close tussle with the Marauders narrowly leading 4-3 with four games remaining. With time getting late, the games were reduced to best of one and the Marauders were able to take full advantage as they won three of the last four to take home the choccies 7-4. Neither team cracked the magical hundred mark to get their name in light, but Davis Stokes had the match’s highest finish with a peg of 49.
